General Walter Booth Jr.

BiographyGeneral Walter Booth, Jr. was born in Woodbridge, Connecticut, on 8 December 1791, the son of Walter Booth (1761-1825) and his first wife Mary Newton Booth. He moved to Meriden, Connecticut at the age of sixteen. He married two times. His first wife was Laura Mitchell, who died 5 April 1841. He then married Sarah H. She died on 24 October 1871. Walter Booth, Jr. was a colonel in the Tenth Regiment, Second Battalion of the Connecticut State Militia from 1825 to 1827. He was promoted to Brigadier General from 1827 to 1828; and was finally promoted to Major General of the First Division from 1831 to 1834. He also served in the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1838. From 1849 to 1851, he served as a "free soiler" from Connecticut in the United States House of Representatives during the Thirty-First session of Congress. General Walter Booth, Jr. resided in Meriden, Connecticut where he died on 30 April 1870.
