Richard WellingAmerican, 1926 - 2009

Richard Welling was born in Hartford on 26 August 1926, the son of William and Muriel Welling. He attended Hall High School and the Yale School of Art before enlisting in the Army. After the end of World War II, he studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York, graduating in 1949. He began working as a commercial artist and later also as a fine artist. For over 40 years, he documented the city of Hartford in intricate line drawings. He also wrote and illustrated several books. He died on 5 November 2009 in West Hartford, Connecticut.
