BiographyJoseph Sherman Gladding was the son of Captain Nathaniel Gladding of Providence, Rhode Island. In 1817, in Thompson, Connecticut, he married Susan Cady (1798-1874) of Plainfield, Connecticut. The Gladdings lived in Plainfield until at least 1846, moving to Hartford, Connecticut, some time thereafter.
