Captain Edward BullAmerican, 1717 - 1782
Captain Edward Bull was born in 1717 the only son of Edward and Mary Post Bull of Saybrook, Connecticut. In 1739 he married Temperance Clark (1715-1786), also of Saybrook, Connecticut. The couple removed in 1739 from Saybrook Point, along the shoreline, to the town's Second Society, a relatively new settlement five miles north, also known as Pautapaug and later Centerbrook. Bull held numerous local offices and served as Captain of the militia from 1735-1760. He inherited extensive landholdings as an infant and died a rich man, with holdings valued at nearly 1600 pounds. He owned a tavern, and the exact dates of his licenses are unknown, but he probably retired in 1764. He died in 1782.
