BiographyMargaret Almira Estey Rankin, known as "Mardi", was born 21 January 1908 in Evanston, Illinois. She was the daughter of Margaret Lillian Hallberg Rankin (1882-1968) of Chicago, Illinois, and George Douglas Rankin, Sr., of Old Saybrook, Connecticut. She had three siblings: George D. Rankin, Lawrence H. "Bud" Rankin, and Florence Julia Peabody Rankin. Her father was the President of the Hartford Faience Company in Hartford, Connecticut.
Margaret Rankin lived in West Hartford, Connecticut, for most of her life. She graduated from Wheaton College. She was a member of the Ruth Wyllis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Colonial Dames of America, and she was a former president of the College Club of Hartford. In 1970, Margaret Rankin operated Rankin Travel Agency. Until her retirement, she was the president of the Marendaz Travel Agency in West Hartford. Margaret Rankin died at her home in West Hartford on 21 April 2004. She is buried in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
