BiographyJohn N. Collins opened Collins and Company in 1851 at 68 Chapel Street in New Haven, Connecticut. It was a hat, cap, and fur store. It was the successor to Smith Collins, which operated from 1844 to 1850. In 1856, Collins and Company moved to 160 Chapel Street. A third address at 111 Chapel Street probably came from a later move.
