Hedwig Rosalia Phillips

Hedwig "Hattie" Rosalia Phillips was born in Rhode Island in 1886. She was the daughter of German immigrant parents, Clara Wilhelmina Florentina Hahn Phillips and August Frederick Phillips. Hedwig went to work in the Baltic mills as a spinner when she was nine years old. She married Carl Frederick Johnson at the Versailles Methodist Church in Baltic, Connecticut, and they had eight children: Ernest; Grace; Verne; Vera; Melvin; Hadley; Clara; and Dorothy. Hedwig Phillips Johnson died in 1967.
