Polish American, 1931 - 2023
BiographyAnnette (Rosker) Gavens was born on 14 October 1931 in Komorowo, Poland. Her birth name was Chana Rostkier, and she was the daughter of Helen and Jacob Rosker (formerly known as Chinka and Jankiel Rostkier). The family immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island and settled in Hartford, Connecticut in 1937.
Annette survived the July 6, 1944 Hartford Circus Fire and was a supporter of The Hartford Circus Fire Memorial.
Annette graduated from Weaver High School in 1950.
In January 1952, Annette married Seymour Gavens (1930-2020). They had three children: Andrew, Lee, and Michelle Gavens.
She was an active volunteer in her community - she delivered Meals on Wheels, was a literacy tutor, and was actively involved with her synagogue, Beth El Temple.
Annette and Seymour were longtime sports fans supporting Connecticut's professional and college teams.
She died on 20 November 2023.
