BiographyDonruss was founded in 1954 as a confectionary company before later becoming a trading cards manufacturing company focused on entertainment-themed and sports cards. In 1969, Donruss was purchased by General Mills.

In 1983, Huhtamäki Oyj, a Finnish food packaging company, purchased Beatrice US Confections, Donruss, and Leaf Candy Company, merging the three companies into "Leaf, Inc." The company continued to use the Donruss name on baseball cards. The Leaf brand was used from 1985-1988 on specially made cards distributed in Canada, and in 1990 on a premium series of baseball cards distributed in the United States. In 1992, the company attained a NHL license and began producing Donruss and Leaf hockey sets for the 1993-1994 season.

In 1996, Donruss was acquired by its rival company, Pinnacle Brands. In 2009, the company was then acquired by Panini America, Inc.
