Margaret Swan CheneyAmerican, 1855 - 1882
Margaret Swan Cheney was born on 8 September 1855. She was the daughter of Seth Wells Cheney (1810-1856) and his second wife, Ednah Dow Littlehale (1824-1904). She was their only child.
Margaret was interested in the sciences, especially Chemistry, and was one of the first to work in the Women's Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Margaret Cheney Room at MIT was opened in 1884 and named in her honor, funded by her mother Ednah.
Margaret died of typhoid on 22 September 1882.
