Mary Hall

American, 1843 - 1927
BiographyMary Hall was the first female lawyer in Connecticut, having been admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1882 by Connecticut Supreme Court of Errors.

Mary Hall was born on 16 August 1843 in Marlborough, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Gustavus Ezra Hall (1811-1875) and Louisa Skinner Hall (1812-1893).

In 1866, she graduated from the Wesleyan Academy in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. In 1880, she founded the Good Will Club, a charity for boys in Hartford, Connecticut. She also became Connecticut’s first female notary in 1884. Hall helped establish the Hartford Woman Suffrage Club in 1885.

Mary Hall died on 15 November 1927.
