Captain Edward Smith

BiographyCaptain Edward Smith was born on 28 July 1803 in Norwich, Connecticut. He married Sally Maria Geer (1808-1873) on 8 January 1827. They had nine children: Sally Ann Maria Smith (1827-1830), Francis Edward Smith (1829-1831), Sally Maria Smith (b. 1831), Edward Smith (b. 1833), Francis Smith (1835-1876), Adelaide Elizabeth Smith (1838-1865), Harriet Anna Smith (b. 1840), Jedediah Smith (1843-1870), and Oliver Merrels Smith (b. 1846).

Captain Smith was in charge of a packet running between Norwich, Connecticut and Providence, Rhode Island and excursion steamers running between Norwich, Connecticut and Watch Hill, Rhode Island.

He died on 29 April 1872 in Norwich, Connecticut.
