Louise Delano

Louise Delano was born on 1 August 1891 in Chicago, Illionois. She was the daughter of Frederic Adrian Delano (1863-1953) and Matilda Anne Peasley (1867-1943). She was a first cousin of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945).

She had four siblings: Catherine Lyman Delano Grant (1889-1951), Laura Delano Houghteling (1893-1978), Matilda Delano (1899-1911), and Alice Delano (1903-1904).

She married Gen. Sherwood Alfred Cheney (1873-1949) on 10 September 1921 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. A few months later the couple departed for Peking, China where Sherwood was appointed to serve as a military attache. Their daughter, Matilda Delano Cheney, was born in China on 2 November 1922, and she died on 4 April 2016 in Alexandria, Virginia.

Louise died in Beijing, China on 9 September 1923.
