BiographyAccording to the 1860 Federal Census, G. W. Davis was born in Massachusetts about 1824. Although he is listed in the Census as an artist, he was active in Hartford as a daguerreotypist and photographer from about 1855 to about 1864. In the 1859 Hartford City Directory, the firm name is given as Davis & Gilbert.
