Leonard DeMaio

American, born 1936
BiographyLeonard DeMaio was born on 20 March 1936, to Anglo and Ada DeMaio in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1959, he received his bachelor’s degree in music and education from the University of Hartford. He served as a conductor for the 43rd Infantry Division Band and was a music teacher in schools for 13 years. He was the music instructor at Enfield High School during the 1960s and 1970s and was one of the first music teachers to implement Connecticut’s Pilot Electronic Project in Music Education (PEP) program beginning in 1967. In 1968, Leonard DeMaio received the Freedoms Foundation award.
