Ethel Mary Cheney

BiographyEthel Mary Cheney was born Mary Eliza Lee, the fourth and youngest child of Charles and Mary Katherine Molette Lee. Her mother died on March 15, 1878, six days after her birth (March 9, 1878). She was adopted by friends of the Lee family, Arthur Cheney (1837-1878) and Emeline Lewis Cheney (1841-1915). The adoption was completed on October 28, 1878, two weeks after Arthur's death. Ethel Mary (her adoptive name) was raised by Emeline Lewis Cheney. She married Samuel Binkerhoff Thorne (1874-1963) in 1903. She died on April 28, 1937.
