John Peter Yacavone was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, but lived in East Hartford, Connecticut most of his life. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a deputy sheriff in East Hartford for nine years. Yacavone was a chairman of the 10th Democratic District of East Hartford and a chairman of the East Hartford town planning commission. He married Muriel Taul Yacavone. He died on 25 December 1972.
