BiographyKatharine Martha Houghton Hepburn was born on February 2, 1878 in Buffalo, New York.
She was an American feminist social reformer and a leader of the suffrage movement in the United States. Hepburn served as president of the Connecticut Woman Suffrage Association before joining the National Woman's Party. Katharine Houghton Hepburn and Margaret Sanger founded the American Birth Control League, which eventually evolved into Planned Parenthood.

She was the mother of actress Katharine Hepburn. She died on March 17, 1951 in West Hartford, Connecticut.
