Valentine D. Galasyn

American, 1928 - 2022
BiographyGalasyn was born in 1928 in Hartford, CT, to Stanley and Frances (Kowalsky) Galasyn. He married Aili Hakkila in 1955, and had five children: Elaine Prince, Valerie Poettgen, Frances Miller, Katherine Wright, Carl Lillquist.

Valentine D. Galasyn served 30-years in the US Navy, enlisting at age 17 during WWII. He served as a physician for the Navy specializing in environmental and emergency medicine where he earned the rank of Captain. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee, and his Master of Public Health from Yale University. He became the director of the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton and helped establish the Emergency Department at Windham Community Memorial Hospital.

Outside of his career, he was a member of the Finnish American Heritage Society, Windham County 4-H Foundation, and the Fin, Fur, & Feathers Club. As well as a lifetime member of the CT State Medical Association and the NRA.
