BiographyKeith L. Carr, Sr. (1930-2008) was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He migrated to the United States in 1959. He was activist and organizer in Hartford's Caribbean communities. He joined the West Indian Social Club shortly after moving to Hartford, and eventually became president. He co-founded the West Indian Foundation in 1978, and served as executive director. He started the West Indian Independence Celebration, an annual festival in Hartford.
