She graduated from The Watkinson School in Hartford in 1980, then attended South Carolina State University, graduating in 1984.
During college she joined the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., rising through various roles until she was elected National President & Chair of the National Board of Directors in 2021.
