BiographyDeacon Joseph “Joe” Hudson Sr. (1918-2022) was the husband of quilt artist Laura Hudson and the father of artist Robert Charles Hudson, the late Barbara Hudson and Minnie Jean Hudson, Linda Hudson Ferguson, and Joseph Jr. After service in the Army, the family moved to Connecticut from Alabama. Joe worked at Bristol Brass and became a longtime Deacon and member of the Second Baptist Male Chorus, singing with that group in church and also as part of the Big Seven group of gospel choruses in central Connecticut. After retiring Joe worked for years as a crossing guard for Bristol schools. In his later years Joe was a regular weaver at the Hartford Artisans Center in Hartford, and always served as a strong creative force in his community. CCHAP presented the Second Baptist Male Chorus at concerts and recorded the group for the 1998 CD “Sounds Like Home” and later displayed some of Joe’s weavings and paintings in the 2014 exhibition “Warmth and Creativity.”
