BiographySar Phouthasack is a Laotian who served as a Major in the U.S. Army Special Guerilla Unit during the Vietnam War, working to defend Laos from takeover by North Vietnamese forces. He has been an honored guest at many of the Hmong community New Year celebrations and other events, and worked with the Hmong Foundation and Hmong veterans such as Boua Tong Xiong to establish a memorial in Middletown dedicated to Special Guerilla Unit veterans (including several Connecticut Hmong) who fought for and supported the United States in the Vietnam War. As a result of their efforts to pass the Hmong Veterans Service Recognition Act in Congress in 2018, Lao and Hmong veterans are now entitled to a military burial in Connecticut. Now retired in Windsor, he settled in Connecticut in 1983, and established a career in business.
