Rebecca Joseph

Rebecca Joseph, Ph.D., served as the first CCHAP Director, from 1991-1993. Among her other accomplishments with CCHAP, she developed the first exhibition in 1991, displaying photographic portraits along with art works and performances representing 15 artists from different communities, at the Institute for Community Gallery at 999 Asylum Avenue in Hartford. She also organized and curated several other exhibits, and began to locate and document folk artists throughout Connecticut through a process of ethnographic fieldwork that is the hallmark of CCHAP’s work. After leading CCHAP for two years, Rebecca joined the National Park Service as a field ethnographer. She later became a rabbi with a strong interest in social justice and educational initiatives.
