BiographyThe West Indian Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded by the West Indian Social Club of Hartford in 1978 to serve as the central focus of West Indian culture, social and educational activities in metro Hartford. The mission of the West Indian Foundation Inc. is to foster and strengthen a sense of unity within the West Indian community through strategic partnerships in the areas of health, education, business, and culture. The West Indian Foundation is committed to the education and development of youth through its ongoing programs including the Fine Arts, Career Recreation Educational, After School Communication Arts and Mathematics, Junior Cricket, summer enrichment programs, and a Youth Day Celebration. The Foundation seeks to encourage and motivate students to reach higher standards of achievement, through the Marcus Garvey and the West Indian Migrant Farm Workers Scholarship Programs and several other annual scholarship awards providing recognition and financial support for students pursuing a college education.
