Irish American Community Center
The Irish American Cultural Center began in 1948 as the New Haven Gaelic Football and Hurling Club, a popular Irish sport that involved many Irish and Irish Americans in Connecticut. Always very active in social, sport, and mutual aid events, the Irish community purchased a hall in New Haven – still its location in 2021 - and began expanding activities and membership. In 1982, the Club officially became the IACC-NHGF/HC. The organization sponsors sports teams and games; classes in Irish language, genealogy, and stepdance; the New Haven Gaelic Players drama group; seisuns, ceilis and set dancing events; scholarships; performances; and the annual Connecticut Irish festival – the longest running in the United States.
