Jay Humphrey Filley

BiographyJay Humphrey Filley was born 10 March 1810, son of Captain Oliver Filley and Annis Humphrey Filley of Bloomfield, Connecticut. He married Julia Ann Newberry on 25 September 1833 in Bloomfield, Connecticut; they had three children. Jay Humphrey Filley was an agriculturalist and dealer in leaf tobacco. He lived at the homestead in Bloomfield until 1868, when he moved to Hartford. Jay Humphrey Filley was active in the Chinese Educational Commission; he provided a home for a Chinese orphan Kwong Ki Chin, and also for the Filley's adopted daughter, Hattie Filley. Jay Humphrey Filley was a partner in the firm of Holt, Ellsworth, & Co. Flour and Fertilizers in 1877-1879. He died in Hartford, Connecticut, on 17 March 1883, at age 73. He is buried in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
