Noah Porter

Noah Porter (1811-1892) was born in Farmington, Connecticut to Noah Porter (1781-1866) and Mehitable “Hetty” Meigs (1786-1874). He had six siblings: Samuel Porter (1810-1901), Sarah Porter (1813-1900), Giles Meigs Porter (1815-1901), Rebecca Porter Keep (1818-1893), Elizabeth Green Porter (1822-1908), and Maria Morgan Porter (1824-1913).

He married Mary Taylor (1813-1888), and they had three children: Martha Day Porter (1838-1922), Rebecca Taylor Porter (1840-1902), and Sarah Porter.

He served as president of Yale College, 1871–1886, succeeding Dr. Theodore W. Woolsey.
