John Davis Lodge (October 20, 1903 - October 29, 1985) served as Governor of Connecticut from January 3, 1951 - January 5, 1955. He was a member of the House of Representatives and an Ambassador to Spain, Argentina, and Switzerland. He began his career as a lawyer, then pursued an acting career in the 1930s. He starred in the film "The Scarlett Empress." He served as a Navy captain during World War II. After the war, he turned to politics.

He married Francesca Braggiotti (1902-1998) in 1929. They had two daughters: Lily Lodge (b. 1930) and Beatrice Lodge de Oyarzabal (b. 1938).
