Tober Baseball Manufacturing Company

1912 - 1970
BiographyThe Tober family immigrated to the United States from Russia in 1902, when Meyer Tober (1882-1964) was about 20 years old. The Tober Baseball Manufacturing Company was started in 1912 by the Tober brothers, Meyer, Israel, and Louis, in Springfield, Massachusetts. The company operated under the names Bon-Tober Sporting Goods Company and Tober Baseball Manufacturing Company.

In 1938, Meyer rented factory space in the Cheney Brothers' mill in Manchester. The Tober Baseball Manufacturing Company primarily produced baseballs, most of them for the Minor League and Little League, and softballs. In 1955, the company moved to Rockville.

After Meyer's death, his son, Richard, operated the company for at least another five years, before a fire in 1970 caused extensive damage to the plant. At some point in the early 1970s, Meyer's sons moved to Florida and the company went out of business.
