Daniel Burnap

American, 1759 - 1838
BiographyDaniel Burnap (1759-1838) was a clockmaker in East Windsor, Connecticut. He learned to make chime clocks while he served as an apprentice and journeyman clockmaker with Thomas Harland (1735-1807). Harland was an English born and trained clockmaker who settled in Norwich, Connecticut in 1773. Burnap was Harland's most accomplished apprentice and specialized in custom works. His dozen surviving musical clocks all display elaborate engraved dials and play a variety of tunes at intervals.
