Casimer Michalczyk
American, 1914 - 2005
BiographyCasimer Michalczyk was born in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts in 1914. He attended the Yale School of Fine Arts and studied sculpting and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1940. He worked for the Pratt, Read and Co. in Ivorytown during World War II. Then, became an industrial sculptor at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford in 1946. After leaving Pratt and Whitney, he became a stone carver, making his own tools. He made inscriptions in slate and medallions for public and private institutions throughout New England. He refurbished the Genius of Connecticut statue in 1972-1973. In 2002, he received the Governor’s Arts Award. Michalczyk died in 2005, in Hartford at the age of 90.
