Ernest Elias Rogers

Ernest E. Rogers was the son of Elias J. Rogers and Lucy Almira Smith. He was born in Waterford, Conn. and grew up on a farm. He and his family moved to New London, Conn. when he was 11 years old. He married Fanny Gorton Rogers (1865-1954), and they had at least one son, Ernest Gorton Rogers.

Ernest E. Rogers served as a Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut (1928-1930), Mayor of New London (1915-1918), State Representative (1921-1923), Senator, and State Treasurer (1924-1928). In 1930, he ran as the Republican candidate for governor and was defeated by Dr. Wilbur L. Cross. He served as president of the Winthrop Trust Company. He served as the national president of the Sons of the American Revolution, president of the Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, and president of the New London Historical Society.

He served in the Connecticut National Guard from 1902-1909. In 1912/1913, he worked as a recruiting officer for the Connecticut National Guard in the New London area. During World War I he organized and commanded a New London machine gun platoon of the Connecticut National Guard.
