George Litchfield CoburnAmerican, born 1833

George L. Coburn was born in Lowell, MA, in 1833. As a printer, he worked at the Case, Lockwood & Brainerd Company in Hartford, CT, for twelve years. He was then senior printer at Coburn & Clark before starting his own printing firm, George L. Coburn.

He was also a Methodist Episcopal minister, serving churches in Connecticut and New York. From 1892-1896, he was the printer and editor of the Dawn, the paper of the Connecticut School for Boys (Meriden). In 1896, he became Superintendent of the institution.

He married Eliza Jane Waterhouse in 1856, and they had five children: Mary Elizabeth, George Louis (died in infancy), George Louis, Mary E., and Charles (died in infancy).
