Sarah Douglas Raymond

American, 1777 - 1865
BiographySarah "Sally" Raymond was born in Waterford, Connecticut on 11 March 1777, the daughter of Edward Raymond and his wife Sarah Douglas. She married Captain Shubel Smith on 17 April 1796; and they had eleven children: Shubel Raymond Smith (1797-1820); Charles Edward Smith (1799-1802); Sally Raymond Smith (b. 1802); Charles Edward Smith (1803-1828); Hannah Emeline Smith (1806-1870); Leonard Christophers Smith (1808-1870); Jared Whitfield Smith (b. 1810); Harriet Lines Smith (1812-1846) (married Noyes P. Denison in 1830); Orlando Smith (1814-1859)(married Emeline Gallup in 1845, daughter of Isaac Gallup, Esq. and Prudence Geer of Ledyard); Eliza Ann Smith (1816-1882); and Julia Abby Smith (1819-1900). They lived in Ledyard at the "Smith Homstead" on Pumpkin Hill Road, which he built in 1807.
Sally Raymond Smith died on 18 September 1865 in Ledyard, Connecticut and she is buried in the Ledyard Cemetery.
