Winslow Homer

American, 1836 - 1910
BiographyWinslow Homer was born in Boston, Massachusetts on 24 February 1836. He was apprenticed to the Boston lithographer J. H. Bufford before going into business for himself, working as an illustrator for Ballou's Pictorial and Harper's Weekly. In 1859, he moved to New York City. He served as a "special artist" at the front during the Civil War. He died at Prout's Neck, Maine on 29 September 1910.
