C. E. Lewis signed several lithographs published by Case & Waters in Hartford, Connecticut between 1834 and 1837. He is presumably Charles E. Lewis, who was born in Massachusetts about 1819 and who was living and working in Buffalo, New York by 1850. He appears listed as an artist in Buffalo in the 1850 Federal Census and as a lithographer in the 1870 Censue. He was a partner in the lithographic firm, Bogardus & Lewis in 1857. .
