John Hills

John Hills was born in England and trained as an engineer, surveyor, and draughtsman in the Drawing Room of the Tower of London. He served with the British Army until 1784, drawing and copying many Revolutionary war plans and maps. He remained in America following the war and settled in Philadelphia in 1786.
