Herbert S. Packard of Boston and William H. Butler of New York joined forces at 716 Filbert Street in Philadelphia in 1879. Photo-lithographer David Anson Patridge joined the firm in 1883. Although Packard left the partnership in 1885, the firm retained his name until a fire razed the building tenanted by the firm at 715 Arch Street on January1886.
