Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt was born on 6 August 1861 in Norwich, Connecticut, the daughter of Charles Carow (1825-1883) and his wife Gertrude Elizabeth Tyler (1834-1895). She married future United States President Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) on 2 December 1886 as his second wife. They had five children: Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. (1887-1944); Kermit (1889-1943); Ethel (1891-1977); Archibald Bullock (1894-1979); and Quentin (1897-1918). Edith died on 30 September 1948 in Oyster Bay, New York, and is buried ther at Young's Cemetery.
