Jodocus Hondius

BiographyJodocus Hondius was born on October 14, 1564 in Wakken and grew up in Ghent, in Flanders. In 1584, he moved to London, where he was active as an engraver, primarily of maps. From 1605 to 1610 he engraved the plates for John Speed's atlas, The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain. He died in Amsterdam on February 12, 1612.
