Elijah Chapman KelloggAmerican, 1811 - 1881

Elijah Chapman Kellogg was born in Tolland, CT on June 13, 1811. He was trained as an engraver by his older brother Jarvis, and then joined his brother Daniel Wright Kellogg in the lithgraphy firm, D.W. Kellogg & Co. After Daniel went west about 1836, Elijah Kellogg and his brother Edmund Burke Kellogg managed the family business. The firm name became E.B. & E.C. Kellogg in 1840. Following an unsuccessful partnership with John Chenevard Comstock, Elijah was the sole principal in the firm for several years in the early 1850s. He was rejoined by his brother Edmund in 1854 and the firm continued as E. B. & E.C. Kellogg until 1867 when William H. Bulkeley and Frank Bulkeley joined the firm and the name became Kellogg & Bulkeley. Elijah Kellogg was also interested in fish breeding. He died in Hartford on December 13, 1881.
