DescriptionPlain-woven ash and oak covered storage basket. The basket is rectangular, with a flared shoulder. The rectangular rim is single wrapped and double reinforced, with flat interior and exterior reinforcement. The warp splints are medium width. The basket is ornamented on the lid and on three of the four sides with open geometric and floral designs in red lead and verdigris. The basket is lined with newspaper from Norwich, Connecticut, dated Wednesday May 17, 1820. The newpaper includes advertisements for a steamboat line and for mules.
