DescriptionElectroplated, spun, and cast Britannia metal syrup jug. The lid has a cast finial in the shape of a woman's head; she wears a helmet in the shape of a bird's head that has a long tail at the back. The lid has straight, tapered sides and a flared rim; a hinge at one side joins it to the rim of the syrup jug. The underside of the front of the lid has a semi-circular flap to stem the flow of syrup. The syrup jug has a tapered neck, a conical body, a tapered ankle, and a flared foot. A recessed plate covering the narrowest part of the neck has a round opening in the center. A cylinder is soldered to the top of this opening to form the pouring rim for the syrup. A cast, angular handle at one side of the syrup jug has a woman's head at the top exterior corner. The body of the syrup jug is engraved with angular sprays of leaves, scrolls, and small floral sprays. The silver on the syrup jug is lightly tarnished. The exterior of the syrup jug is lightly scratched.
