Label TextThis field chest was used during the Civil War, belonging to surgeon Hubert Vincent C. Holcombe of the 15th Connecticut Volunteers. The inside of the chest is divided into fifteen compartments and two drawers, and was most likely used for his papers rather than holding any medical supplies.
NotesHistorical Note: Dr. Hubert V. C. Holcombe of Branford, Connecticut, enlisted on 14 August 1862, serving during the Civil War as Surgeon of the 15th Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged in Newbern, North Carolina, on 27 June 1865. (Hudson 1/18/2006)
