DescriptionA three-quarter-length portrait of a small boy standing in an interior. He wears a short-sleeved plaid dress trimmed with lace and pantalets. On his head, he wears a military beaked cap with a plume. He has a knapsack on his back and an epaulet on his right shoulder. A rifle or musket rests on his left shoulder, and a sword is tucked into the sash around his waist. A carved marble fireplace is in the right background. A small bouquet of flowers is on the mantlepiece, which has a fringed cover. A large mirror in a gilt frame hangs above the fireplace. Drapery tied back with a cord is in the left background. The round object immediately behind the child appears to be the back of a leather-covered chair.
