DescriptionTwo men stand in the interior of a room. Both men wear coats, trousers, vests, shirts, and neckties. Both have sideburns. One has a beard. Around their necks are long yokes or sashes, fastened with rosettes, with cords and tassels hanging from them. The man on the left holds a book in his left hand. His right hand rests on a table covered with a tablecloth. On the table are a stack of three books, some sheets of paper, and a rolled up scroll of paper. The man on the right holds a scroll of paper in his left hand. Printed on the scroll are the words: "PLEDGE / No brother shall make buy / sell or use as a beverage / any Spiritous or Malt Liquors / Wine, or Cider." With his right hand he points towards a window, through which a large building with a central cupola and two American flags is visible. Tiny figures of people walk on the lawn in front of the building. A large fountain is at the right. The window is framed by drapery tied back with cords and edged with fringe. A fluted column is in the left background. A printed carpet or floorcloth is on the floor.
