DescriptionA barefoot boy on the right is part way up the trunk of a large tree, clinging with his knees and grasping a slender branch with with left hand. A second boy is holding the branch with both hands as it breaks in the middle. He is wearing a smock and his straw hat is falling towards the left. He is partially supported on the shoulders of a third boy who stands facing the tree while a spotted dog tugs at his shirttail or undergarment which protrudes through a hole in his trousers. Books are on the ground at the right. A man holding a whip in his right hand is running out the door of a stone building in the left background. Hills are in the distance.
