DescriptionOne of a pair of sterling silver souvenir spoons (1939.7.19-.20). The bowl of this spoon is molded with a depiction of Independence Hall. The back of the spoon's bowl is engraved with "F. V. F./ 1891". The spoon has a slender handle, the end of which is shaped as the coat of arms of Pennsylvania. To either side of the coat of arms is a rearing horse, above it is a bird with outstretched wings, and below it is a banner that reads "VIRTUE LIBERTY INDEPENDENCE". Several stamps appear on the back of the spoon's handle: "8", followed by the Gorham trade mark of [lion][anchor][G], followed by "STERLING", followed by "GORHAM MFG. CO."
