DescriptionUnfinished Coat of Arms worked in shades of dark, medium and light green, cream, brown silk thread with gold metallic thread and applied dark green velvet all on a cream, satin-woven silk ground, using a satin stitch and other stitches. At the top is a rampant unicorn over a shield-shaped piece of dark green velvet that is applied to the silk. An eagle with gold outstretched wings is embroidered onto the velvet; the shape of the eagle is outlined in pencil on the back of the ground. The velvet is outlined with gold metallic thread. The shield is surrounded by a wreath of laurels on stems that are crossed at the bottom. The silk ground has hand-drawn pencil outlines of three banners at the bottom of the wreath; these are unfinished. The silk ground is cut to accommodate the shape of the coat of arms, with additional close cutting at the top near the unicorn's head.

Stitches: The principal stitch on the sampler is the long and short stitch; it also includes padded satin, and running.

Condition: The coat of arms is unframed has been cut down at the edges. The silk is beginning to fray at some edges of the ground.
